Quote-update counts from two feeds are not executed global volume. Exchange volume is a separate venue-specific measure.

Exchange-traded volume generally counts executed units or contracts on a defined venue. Tick volume counts recorded price or quote updates, depending on the feed. For OTC forex there is no single retail feed containing all global traded volume; a provider’s chart covers its particular data source.
Read the symbol and venue documentation. TradingView’s volume-profile documentation distinguishes traded volume from tick volume for different instruments. A bar labelled volume therefore cannot automatically be compared with volume from another product, broker or venue, even when the currency name looks similar.
Volume can describe participation in a move, but increased activity does not establish its cause or future direction. For research, compare like periods, account for session patterns and mark missing observations. A zero value may be missing data rather than a genuinely inactive global market.
Worked example
Hypothetical feed A records 1,200 quote updates in an hour and feed B records 900. These figures do not prove that 2,100 currency contracts traded globally. In a separate exchange example, 500 executed contracts describe that exchange’s reported activity only.
Common mistakes
Do not label tick counts as global forex volume or combine incompatible feeds into a misleading total. Price-derived volume indicators and participation measures provide context, not guaranteed confirmation.
Practice
Inspect two chart symbols and write what each volume column counts. Compare the same hour, timezone and market session, and record any unavailable documentation.
